Zirconia crowns

Zirconia crowns in Albania: prices, longevity and procedure

A zirconia crown rebuilds a compromised tooth by covering it completely, restoring its shape and function with no visible metal. It is the answer when a tooth is too damaged for a filling but the root can still be saved.

  • Monolithic zirconia or full ceramic
  • No grey metal line at the gum margin
  • On implants as well as on natural teeth
  • A dedicated prosthodontics specialist
  • Indicative prices per single unit
  • Free treatment plan before you travel

Zirconia is a high-strength ceramic that has largely replaced the old metal-ceramic crowns. Its main advantage is not only cosmetic: with no metal substructure, a zirconia crown does not develop the characteristic dark line that appears at the gum margin over the years, as the gum recedes.

It is used both on heavily restored or root-treated natural teeth and as a screw-retained or cemented crown on an implant. In the posterior sections, where chewing forces are greatest, monolithic zirconia is preferred; at the front, layered ceramics can be used to restore more translucency.

A crown does not resolve whatever damaged the tooth in the first place: an infection has to be treated first, bruxism has to be managed, or the prosthetic work is exposed to the same loads that compromised the original tooth. That is why the examination always comes before the final quote.

How it works, step by step.

  1. 01

    1. Assessing the tooth

X-rays are used to check the state of the root and the supporting tissues. If root canal treatment or the treatment of deep decay is needed, it comes first: a crown is fitted onto a healthy base.

  2. 02

    2. Preparation

The tooth is prepared to create the space for the thickness of the crown. The shape of that preparation determines how well the work holds over time and the emergence profile where it meets the gum.

  3. 03

    3. Impressions and temporary

We take the impression, digital or conventional, and fit a temporary crown that protects the prepared tooth and maintains the correct space until the final one is delivered.

  4. 04

    4. Try-in and shade selection

The crown made in the laboratory is tried in: contacts, occlusion and shade against the neighbouring teeth are all checked. Any corrections are made at this stage, before cementation.

  5. 05

    5. Final cementation

The crown is cemented, the margins are finished and the occlusion is checked in closing and in lateral movements. You receive instructions for daily hygiene and for follow-up check-ups.

How many days and how many trips

Crowns on natural teeth are normally completed in a single trip. Where the crown goes onto a newly placed implant, the timings follow those of implant treatment and two trips are needed, because osseointegration has to happen first.

The number of appointments depends on how many crowns are planned and on the dental laboratory's work. We give you the calendar before you travel.

Crowns on natural teeth
5–7 days, single trip
Crowns on implants
two trips, as for implant treatment
Clinic appointments
3–4, spread across the stay

The materials we use

Choosing between monolithic zirconia and full ceramic depends on where the tooth sits: strength at the back, translucency at the front. It is a decision we take with you at the examination, because it affects both appearance and longevity.

  • Monolithic zirconia for the posterior sections
  • Full ceramic for the front sections
  • Screw-retained or cemented crowns on implants
  • Digital impressions and CAD/CAM design
